TWU titans (05) vs the thompson rivers university wolfpack (12)

LANGLEY, B.C. - The Thompson River University WolfPack found their offensive groove in their match up against the Trinity Western University Titans hockey on Friday night at the Langley Event Centre (LEC) winning twelve to five.

Right off the bat the Wolf Pack dominated the game out shooting the Titans 25 to seven in the first period.  Following the quick early goals of TRU the Titans managed a small come back ending the period five to two.

The second period brought some penalty trouble and a few momentum swings.  It was looking hopeful for the Titans when again the Wolf Pack showed their stuff. Titans gained somewhat in shots with 13 for TWU and 17 for TRU, but as assistant Coach Lindsay Curtis of the Titans said after missing a number of games “this is not the same team that started the season, they now think they can hang on and make the better play.  Simple hockey wins games at this level.”

The game finished with only 35 shots for the Titans .to TRU’s 52.  Coach Lowdermilk of the Titans stated “All that we had worked for by doing the little things is now back to the cutting room floor to find the parts we lost.  I know I wouldn’t want to be at practice Monday.”   Game stars were Kevin Sparling of Ft. Saint John, who had a hatrick; Jassi Sanga of Kamloops, who had with 3 points for TRU and Pete Masterton of Ft. Langley for TWU who had 3 points.  Andrew Heringer also netted 2 for the Titans and Josh MacKnee and Craig MacDermott each had 1.

The Titans next and even bigger challenge comes next weekend when they play the dominant Simon Fraser University out on their home territory Friday Oct 30th.  SFU is currently in first place being undefeated in league play.

It is time for this Trinity hockey team to get back to simpler hockey, not be fancy and take the shots when available, They have proven they have scoring ability as they have 20 goals in their 6 league games played and have definitely shown they can and have played with the “big boys”, being described as one of the front runners of the league.  TWU is a talented bunch with 8 ex junior players joining the squad this year and when all of their “guns” are firing will be a formidable force.  Pete Masterton formerly with Liberty University in the States has started to step up his game.  They will also look to past leaders like veteran player Josh MacKnee to help push the Titans forward.

Currently second in the league the Titans next few games will be vital in setting up the remainder of the season with SFU next and then a road trip when they will have a double header against the TRU Wolf Pack.
